Co-chaired by the Governments of the Philippines and the United States, the Migrants in Countries in Crisis Initiative MICIC Initiative aims to distil Principles, Guidelines, and Effective Practices through a broad consultative process that engages with States and regional actors, civil society, including migrants and diasporas, the private sector, and international organizations.
The ultimate outcome of the initiative will be a set of non-binding, voluntary Principles, Guidelines, and Effective Practices that identify the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders vis-à-vis migrants in countries in crisis and a compilation of effective practices to prepare for, respond to, and address such situations.
These will be presented at the September 19th UN General Assembly High Level Plenary Meeting on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants
The participation and investment of civil society in this initiative is critical. ABDGN has been invited to participate in a briefing being held by MICIC in New York in April where participants will learn updates on the initiative and additional opportunities for consultation.
Reports from the civil society consultations that were already held in January 2016 will be available soon, but you can CLICK HERE to access the MICIC global webinar on the role of civil society in assisting and protecting migrants caught in conflicts and natural disasters
